Phoenix Park and Dublin Zoo

Today we went for a walk in Phoenix Park. It is Europe's largest park and is located just around the corner from our place. Inside the park is where the national Garda (Irish police) headquarters is located as well as the presidents house and the Wellington monument. We haven't found the Garda or the presidents house yet, so we still have more exploring to do at the park. But here are some pictures!

We aren't to sure what the monument is for. But we will let you know! its huge. and we can see it from outside our apartment!








On the other side of the Park is Dublin's National Zoo. Its a lot smaller then our zoo, but they have some great animals. It must have been a lucky day because all of the animals seemed to come up close to the glass for us. Dave got some really great pictures!

Saturday March 7th.

Marrion Square and Archbishop Ryan Park

After Trinity college, we walked over to Marrion Square and went through a park called Archbishop Ryan Park. it was a beautiful park and housed the memorial to play write Oscar Wilde. It was a really neat statue and around it were little pillars where people could write famous Oscar Wilde sayings. we were going to go take a tour of his childhood home which was across the street from the park, but unfortunately it was closed on weekends. We will just have to go back.

There was also a really neat War Memorial statue. It was a large pyramid, and inside was four bronze soldiers surrounding a small fire. The photo's really don't do it justice. It was really nice.

After that we took the long route back up to the city centre and went through a very "posh" area of town called Grafton street. This is where all of the high end shopping was. We (and by "we" i mean Kristen) saw lots of great things to buy! (don't worry mom, i didn't get anything...yet).

It was an extremely busy street with tons of stores and street vendors. We didn't spend to much time there, because it was getting late so we will definitely be going back!

DUBLIN, IRELAND

Hi Guys,

So we finally did some site seeing today. We went to Trinity college, which is located right in the city centre in Dublin. It is one of the oldest colleges in Dublin and it houses the book of Kells and other ancient documents. We took a few pictures of the buildings, but unfortunately flash photography was not permitted inside the exhibit. There was also this huge library filled with really old books, and they had a display of all these old detective novels.

They displayed all these famous Irish detective writers in history including the original Sherlock Holmes novels. It was really neat to see.
